Sub-Agent on the A13 Road Widening Project
Following my experience with Kier, the project director from my previous project took me on the next challenge with him. I am working as a sub-agent on the structures team leading a team of engineers and several sub-contractors. Our job is to demolish 4 existing bridges spanning over the A13 and build 4 new bridges to accommodate the widening of A13 near Thurrock. One of the bridges is a steel frame footbridge, spanning over 50m, with 25m deep CFA piles. The the second bridge is a 47m long steel frame farmer’s bridge with a concrete deck and GRP panels. The bridge has 3m high girders. The other two bridges are identical similar to the farmer’s bridge but are able to accommodate 3 lanes of traffic. All four bridges have reinforced concrete abutments and the steel frame was erected with a 1000tn crane. My responsibilities are to organise the and supervise the RC works, prepare and check lift plans, supervise and liaise with sub-contractors, prepare programme for each structure, organise required resources, communication with client and designers and whatever is needed to make sure the project rubs smoothly and without any accidents.

Sub-Agent/Package manager on the M20, J3-5, Smart Motorway
I started as a sub-agent on this challenging job, changing the three lanes and a hard shoulder to 4 running lanes on the M20, between J3-5. The job involves many improvements, making it a smart motorway, which improves the traffic flow and increases the capacity of the motorway. I was assisting the package manager working with the piling sub- contractor. We had one senior engineer and two site engineers, looking after setting out. Our responsibilities as a team were to build the piling mats and install over 100 piles, 26m deep piles using rotary and CFA piling rigs. I was responsible for reviewing RAMS, raising TQs, ordering plant and materials, make sure that all ITPs and check sheets are up to date, programming the sequence of work and taking care of day to day problems on site. When the piling was towards the end, I was promoted to a package manager, looking after earthworks on the job. This package was the hardest one of them all, because it is the preparation work for all other packages on the job and the making good after every activity. I had a sub-agent and two site engineers assisting me with the management of the works. I had to communicate constantly with the foremen and package managers on each section of the job, making sure that there are no clashes with any other works and the cutting and filling of embankments goes smoothly. On top of earthworks, I was in charge of saw cutting, installation of environmental barrier, vegetation and site clearance.
